Bone Grafting

Tooth loss leads to jawbone loss. The jaws are composed of a basal bone and alveolar bone. The alveolar bone exists to provide support for the teeth. If the teeth are lost, the corresponding jawbone will melt away and the result is an unnatural looking indentation in your gums and jaw. This gives the appearance of general aging.

Bone grafting following tooth loss can preserve the jawbone and minimize gum and bone collapse. There is less shrinkage and facial changes when grafting is completed. This gives your dentist more aesthetic tooth replacement options and gives you the best chance to optimize your bite and smile.
